Masters of Migration

On Monday, as it was freezing outside, our bird group decided to stay inside and I did a presentation on 'Masters of Migration.'  This covered how to distinguish between Swallows, Swifts, House Martins and Sand Martins as well as discovering when they left and what incredible journeys they take twice a year to and from Europe and Africa.  We learned that the record for the longevity of one Swift was 16 years.  That's a lot of air miles for such a little bird that would fit into your hand!!

Redshank
This morning, although it is a wonderfully sunny day, the waves are crashing into the shore and I went round Seacliffe Road and at the Yacht Club came upon a handful of Redshanks and 4 Turnstones.  This photo shows them having to move further away from the waves that were crashing  on the little pier.
