It is not easy birding from a fast train however, other than seeing the usual common birds, I was pleased to see 2 fields of Whopper Swans, 8 Mute Swans, 1 Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, 1 Little Egret and a lot of Carrion Crow. The Carrion Crows are quite common in England but scarce in Northern Ireland. Of course as I passed through the country, there were numerous Wood Pigeons but one highlight for me, was when 200+ of them took to the air on mass as the train passed by. It was quite a sight. My birding partner, Jimmy calls these, 'Spitfires'! Can you see why?

Birds seen from train- Gatwick to Portsmouth
Today was a 'travelling' day. First by car, then plane, train, ferry and again car until I arrived on the Isle of Wight.
